A Common Music Terminology for Zazaki Is Being Developed

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality is holding a working meeting from 3 to 6 September with the participation of linguists, academics and field researchers to compile Zazaki music terminology, assess existing usage and work towards a common terminology.

Organised by the Language Preservation and Development Unit of the Department of Culture, Arts and Social Affairs, the meeting is being held under the title “Multilingual Municipal Terminology – Zazakî Music Terms I”.

30 Participants Take Part in the Study

The meeting brings together linguists, academics and field researchers affiliated with the Vate Group. A total of 30 people are taking part in the study, which focuses on Zazaki music terminology.

Zazaki Vocabulary to Be Documented

Tahir Baykuşak, Head of the Language Preservation and Development Unit, said the meeting aims to compile Zazaki music terms, assess their existing usage and develop a common terminology.

Baykuşak emphasised the importance of terminology work in documenting the vocabulary of Zazaki, which is among the languages at risk of extinction, and ensuring that it is passed on to future generations.
