Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak met with firefighters and their families on the occasion of Firefighters’ Week. Accompanied by DBB Assembly Co-Spokesperson Demet Ceylan and Head of the Department of Fire and Rescue Services Mehmet Candar, Co-Mayor Bucak also attended the testing of fully equipped fire engines newly added to the Department’s vehicle fleet. She observed the vehicles’ performance tests on site and received information from officials.

Co-Mayor Bucak: “A highly demanding field”

Following the vehicle tests, Co-Mayor Bucak addressed firefighters and their families, emphasising that firefighting requires great sacrifice. Co-Mayor Bucak said:

“May Firefighters’ Week be a good and auspicious occasion for all of us and your families. You carry out an important profession. It is a very challenging profession that not everyone can do. It is a highly demanding field of work and profession, and I would like to thank each and every one of you for this. Thank you all for your hard work. We believe that we have been strengthening our own firefighting capacity for quite some time. Of course, there is no end to this; as long as we have the means to do so, we will continue doing everything we can to keep up with new technologies and develop new training programmes.”

Thanks for successful interventions during the summer

Referring to the fires during the difficult summer months, Co-Mayor Bucak said:

“I would like to thank each and every one of you for the outstanding effort you have shown throughout the summer. You responded to incidents promptly and effectively. We have now entered autumn; around November, we will move into a period when the workload will ease somewhat and return to normal, allowing you to diversify your training programmes. I wish you all a happy Firefighters’ Week.”
