Co-Mayors Attend Gurbetelli Ersöz Women’s Journalism Awards Ceremony

Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayors Serra Bucak and Emin Ay attended the Gurbetelli Ersöz Women’s Journalism Awards ceremony organised by the Mesopotamia Women Journalists Association.

The second annual Gurbetelli Ersöz Women’s Journalism Awards, organised by the Mesopotamia Women Journalists Association (MKG), took place at Çand Amed Culture and Congress Centre. Attendees included Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality (DBB) Co-Mayors Serra Bucak and Emin Ay; Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar; DEM Party Diyarbakır Co-Chairs Fatime Üzül Levent and Yunus Muratakan; DBP Diyarbakır Provincial Co-Chair Ahmet Doğan; DEM Party Diyarbakır MP Adalet Kaya; DBB Council Co-Spokesperson Demet Ceylan; council members; representatives of civil society organisations; journalists; and members of the public.

Following the speeches, the awards were presented to the journalists.

First Prize in the Video News Category Goes to ‘Heviya Vegere’

First Prize in the Video News Category went to Heviya Vegere (Hope of Return), a piece produced jointly by Sewsen Eli and Meryem Reşo. Co-Mayor Serra Bucak presented the award on behalf of the journalists to Medine Ölçen of the Mesopotamia Women Journalists Association.

Speaking during the award presentation, Co-Mayor Bucak said:

“I remember all press workers with respect and affection. I would like to pay tribute to all the courageous women journalists, dedicated professionals who lost their lives in this struggle, and who followed in the footsteps of the honourable journalist Gurbetelli Ersöz. I would also like to thank each and every member of the MKG and all women journalists for their hard work in organising this evening’s second Women’s Journalism Awards and continuing the legacy of Gurbetelli Ersöz. I want to say to them all: thank you for everything you do. I’m glad you are here.”
