Diyarbakır Fire Service Tackles 3,787 Stubble, Crop and Grass Fires in Five Months
Fire crews from Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality responded to a total of 3,787 stubble, crop and grass-and-straw fires between May and September, including 1,580 stubble fires. Around 91% of stubble fires were recorded in July, August and September.
The Department of Fire and Rescue continues to respond to fires across the city. Data covering May, June, July, August and September show that responses to stubble, crop and grass-and-straw fires were concentrated particularly in the summer months.
Over the five-month period, grass-and-straw fires accounted for the largest number of incidents attended by fire crews across the three categories, followed by stubble and crop fires.
Stubble fires peaked in July
Fire crews responded to four stubble fires in May, 141 in June, 522 in July, 456 in August and 457 in September. This brought the total number of stubble fires attended between May and September to 1,580.
July was the busiest month for stubble fires, with 522 incidents. Numbers remained high in August and September. Crews attended a total of 1,435 stubble fires during these three months, accounting for around 91% of all stubble fires recorded over the five-month period.
Crop fires peaked in June
During the same period, crews responded to a total of 204 fires in cultivated fields. No crop-fire responses were recorded in May, while crews attended 131 in June, 61 in July, five in August and seven in September.
June saw the highest number of responses to crop fires. The 192 crop fires attended in June and July accounted for the vast majority of incidents in this category over the five-month period.
Responses to grass-and-straw fires exceed 2,000
Between May and September, fire crews responded to a total of 2,003 grass-and-straw fires. They attended 62 in May, 490 in June, 569 in July, 480 in August and 402 in September.
July also recorded the highest number of incidents in this category. The number of responses rose from 62 in May to 490 in June, reaching 569 in July. Although the figures fell in August and September, they remained above 400 in both months.
3,787 responses across all three fire categories
Across stubble, crop and grass-and-straw fires combined, crews responded to 66 incidents in May, 762 in June, 1,152 in July, 941 in August and 866 in September.
The highest combined monthly total for the three types of fire was recorded in July. The total number of responses between May and September stood at 3,787.
