Event Held at Newroz Park to Raise Awareness of Violence Against Women
As part of its work to tackle violence against women and raise public awareness, Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality held an outreach event at Newroz Park, where information stands, a video presentation and one-to-one conversations provided an opportunity to hear women’s needs and suggestions.
The Department of Women’s Policies organised a gathering at Newroz Park to engage directly with women on the challenges they face in urban life, explore practical solutions and raise public awareness of violence against women.
Strengthening Networks of Solidarity
The gathering, aimed at strengthening networks of solidarity among women, was attended by Head of the Department of Women’s Policies Özden Gürbüz Sümer, municipal council members, department staff and staff from the Diyarbakır Women’s Issues Research and Support Centre (DİKASUM).
Throughout the event, which focused on ways of tackling violence against women, extensive outreach work was carried out across the park.
Municipal Services for Women Presented
As part of the event, a specially prepared video presentation was screened for visitors to the park. At information stands set up at two locations in the park, detailed information was provided on the Metropolitan Municipality’s legal, psychological and social counselling services for women, as well as how to access these services.
Women Share Their Needs and Suggestions
Municipal staff approached women spending time in the park and spoke with them individually. During these conversations, women shared the challenges they encounter in their daily lives, their expectations of local government and their suggestions for addressing these issues. Information materials were also distributed to women during the outreach activities.
