German Bundestag and Green Party Delegation Visits Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality
A delegation of members of the German Bundestag and representatives of the Green Party visited Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak. The meeting focused on the Metropolitan Municipality’s work, recent developments in the city, local government, democracy and bilateral relations.
A delegation from the German Bundestag and Alliance 90/The Greens visited Diyarbakır for a series of meetings. The delegation included Alliance 90/The Greens Bundestag members Claudia Roth and Max Lucks, Green Youth Co-Spokesperson Henriette Held, and Nicole Gonsior, First Secretary at the German Embassy.
First Visit to the Peace Mothers’ Assembly
The delegation’s first stop in Diyarbakır was the Peace Mothers’ Assembly. The delegation was welcomed by Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak, DBB Council Co-Spokespersons Demet Ceylan and Ayhan Karatekin, and members of the Peace Mothers.
During the meeting, the delegation met with the Peace Mothers and received information about their work and recent developments.
Metropolitan Municipality’s Work Discussed
Following its visit to the Peace Mothers’ Assembly, the delegation visited Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, where it was welcomed by Co-Mayor Serra Bucak, Council Co-Spokespersons Demet Ceylan and Ayhan Karatekin, and Deputy Chief Executive Zerin Türk. The meeting focused on the Municipality’s work across the city.
The participants also exchanged views on recent developments in Diyarbakır, the approach to democratic local government, the role of local authorities in society and ways to strengthen bilateral relations.
Tahir Elçi Commemorated at the Four-Legged Minaret
Following the meeting at the Metropolitan Municipality, Co-Mayor Bucak and members of the delegation walked to Sur district, visiting local business owners and speaking with residents along the way. They then visited the Four-Legged Minaret, where they paid tribute to former Diyarbakır Bar Association President Tahir Elçi at the site where he was killed. Diyarbakır Bar Association President Abdulkadir Güleç and New Party Istanbul MP Türkan Elçi also attended the commemoration.
