Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality continues its efforts to preserve and develop the city’s cultural and artistic heritage and pass it on to future generations. Operating under the Department of Culture, Arts and Social Affairs, Aram Tigran City Conservatory will welcome students for the new academic term.

Established in 2010, Aram Tigran Conservatory was closed on 1 November 2016 by the trustee administration. Nine years later, the Metropolitan Municipality reopened the Conservatory, bringing it back into the city’s cultural and artistic life. The new term will once again offer free courses across a range of artistic disciplines.

Free Tuition Across Six Departments

With a limited number of places available, Aram Tigran City Conservatory will offer programmes in cinema, theatre, music, children’s music, Kurdish language and literature, and govend. The programmes aim to support participants in developing their artistic practice while passing the city’s cultural heritage on to future generations.

All workshops at the Conservatory will be held at Çand Amed Culture and Congress Centre.

Age Requirements and Programme Lengths

Applicants to the theatre department must be aged between 20 and 30, and the programme will run for two years. The music department will accept applicants aged between 17 and 28 and will provide four years of training. Applicants must be aged between 18 and 32 for the literature department, between 17 and 30 for the painting department, and between 18 and 30 for the cinema department. Programmes in literature, govend and cinema will each run for two years. The language of instruction at the Conservatory will be Kurdish.

Six-Year Programme for Children’s Music

The children’s music department will be open to children aged between 7 and 12. The programme, which will be taught in Kurdish, will provide six years of music education. Through this long-term programme, the Conservatory aims to identify children’s musical abilities at an early age and help them develop through a structured programme of study.

Applications for the new term can be submitted between 1 and 20 September 2026 through DİSMEK at https://dismek.diyarbakir.bel.tr/. Applications will also be accepted from outside Diyarbakır. Student Selection Workshops Begin on 21 September

Once applications have closed, student selection workshops will be held at Çand Amed Culture and Congress Centre from 21 to 27 September. Students offered a place at the Conservatory will be determined following assessments conducted during the workshops.

The results of the student selection workshops will be announced on 5 October, and classes for the new term at Aram Tigran City Conservatory will begin on 12 October.
