Former Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Selçuk Mızraklı, who was released from Edirne F-Type High-Security Closed Prison, arrived in Diyarbakır. A welcome ceremony was held for Mızraklı at Diyarbakır Airport. Those attending included Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Serra Bucak, DBB Assembly Co-Spokespersons Demet Ceylan and Ayhan Karatekin, district municipality co-mayors, MPs, council members, DBB Deputy Chief Executives Zerin Türk, Muhabbet Erdoğmuş and Özlem Tekin, heads of departments, representatives of political parties and civil society organisations, and local residents.

‘Peace Must Become Part of the Social Memory’

Speaking at the welcome ceremony, Mızraklı began by saying, “Hello, city of memory and love.”

Commenting on the Peace and Democratic Society Process, Mızraklı said it was necessary to remain committed to pursuing a peaceful, democratic and dignified solution. He stated that peace could only find its true meaning if it became embedded in all layers of society and in the social memory, while also carrying the potential to shape the future. He stressed the importance of ensuring that the process moves forward on a credible and genuine basis.

Mızraklı also said that, as part of the principles of fraternity and the rule of law in the pursuit of peace, securing the release of politicians and other detainees held in prisons was another important element of the process.
