Diyarbakır City Council has decided to establish a “Language Assembly” with the aim of placing the city’s language-related activities on a more coordinated, participatory and sustainable footing.

The Executive Board of Diyarbakır City Council held a meeting at the Çand Amed Culture and Congress Centre. The meeting was attended by members of the Executive Board, academics, and representatives of non-governmental organisations and relevant institutions.

Decision taken for the ‘Language Assembly’

As a result of the meeting held with institutions and individuals working in the field of language in the city, it was decided to establish a “Language Assembly” within Diyarbakır City Council in order to place ongoing language work in the city on a more coordinated, participatory and sustainable basis. Participants shared their views and suggestions on mother tongue, multilingualism, language rights, and the role of language in social life.
