Children Discover Cultural Heritage Through Meeting Dengbêjs
Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality organised a theatre performance, a visit to historical sites, a meeting with dengbêjs and an autumn-themed event to support children's artistic development, familiarise them with the city's culture and raise awareness of their cultural heritage.
A series of activities for children was organised jointly by the Children's Services Unit of the Department of Social Services and the Tourism Unit of the Department of Culture, Arts and Social Affairs. The children enjoyed a range of experiences, from theatre and visits to historical sites to exploring the dengbêj tradition and taking part in autumn activities.
227 children attend interactive theatre performance
As part of the programme, children attending the Bağcılar and 450 Evler Zarokistan Nurseries and Day Care Centres, accompanied by their educators, attended a theatre performance at the Mehmet Emin Yalçınkaya Stage at Çand Amed Culture and Congress Centre.
Hişê Min Tev Li Hev Bû (My Mind Is in a Tangle), written by playwright Yasin Yürekli for children aged five and above, offered an interactive theatre experience. Combining acrobatics, contemporary mime, storytelling and clowning, the performance invited children to become part of the story.
A total of 227 children and their educators took part in the event, enjoying entertaining stories and educational messages delivered through engaging scenes.
Discovering the city's cultural heritage at historical sites
A visit was organised to introduce children to Diyarbakır's historical and cultural heritage. Fifty five-year-olds attending the Bağcılar and 450 Evler Zarokistan Nurseries and Day Care Centres took part.
Accompanied by their educators, the children explored historical sites in the Sur district. They first visited the miniature model of Diyarbakır at Balıkçılarbaşı, where they had the opportunity to learn about the city's architecture and historic urban fabric through scale models. They then visited Cemil Paşa Mansion.
During the visit, the children learned about Diyarbakır's traditional way of life and architectural heritage. The trip aimed to help them develop a closer understanding of the history and cultural values of the city they call home.
Learning about the dengbêj tradition first-hand
A gathering was also held at the Dengbêj House to raise awareness of cultural heritage. Meeting local dengbêjs, the children listened live to traditional kilam (Kurdish narrative songs), an important part of Kurdish oral culture.
During the gathering, held in the historic setting of the Dengbêj House, the children joined in with the dengbêjs' melodies.
Welcoming autumn with activities
As part of the activities organised by the Children's Services Unit, a programme entitled “Welcome, Autumn” was held at Sümerpark Community Life Centre.
The children who attended enjoyed a range of activities. The event aimed to encourage their participation in social life and give them the opportunity to experience the changing season through different activities.
